“The Progressive Labour Party offers its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the late Mr Gilbert Darrell.
A party spokesperson said: “Mr Darrell, a former PLP MP and a founder of the National Liberal Party (NLP), was a well known businessman in our community.
“Mr Darrell always had the courage of his convictions and this led to a very storied political career. Known to represent everyday people of Bermuda, his contributions will be remembered.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation for his years of service and we extend to his family our deepest condolences.”
