The Progressive Labour Party (PLP) has selected a keynote speaker who is widely regarded as “a visionary entrepreneur whose philosophy of ‘doing well and doing good’ has resulted in extraordinary business success and inspiring philanthropic initiatives”, for their upcoming gala.

President and Chairman of Portland Holdings, Michael Lee Chin, will deliver the keynote address at the PLPs Black Tie Gala on Saturday, November 18th at the Fairmont Southampton Resort.

Born in Port Antonio, Jamaica, Mr Chin emigrated to Canada in 1970 to study civil engineering at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. After beginning post-graduate studies, Michael decided to explore career opportunities within the mutual fund industry.

A PLP spokesman said: “At the age of 26, Michael became a financial advisor and, with growing success, progressed to the position of branch manager.”

Party Leader and Premier David Burt was said to be “excited” that Mr Chin “has graciously accepted the invitation to be a guest speaker”.

“His understanding of the business world and humble beginnings in Jamaica will surely make for a great speech at the upcoming gala. I encourage everyone to purchase their tickets soon as I know this will be an event that you don’t want to miss,” said Premier Burt, who will also address the audience.

The programme also includes a number of presentation to longstanding PLP members, a silent auction and live local entertainment.
