• The following statement was released this afternoon, Friday, May 15, 2020 by Opposition Leader Craig Cannonier, One Bermuda Alliance…

Government must give businesses specific advice on what is required to protect staff and customers against COVID-19 once they are allowed to reopen.

Without guidance, some businesses will probably do minimum, but others will go a lot further, spending money they don’t have right now. They have to know specifics, so people are properly protected, and money is not spent unnecessarily.

They must be given proper notice. Restaurants were given two days’ notice that they could do take-out trade, but then found out they could not properly restock. As a result, many were expecting them to be open.

I raised this issue in the House last Friday. Businesses want to be proactive and help where they can and are putting together plans for reopening.

Government has to talk to them and give them proper notice of any relaxation in the lockdown rules and specific guidelines they need to follow.
