The former Speaker of the House, the first Black Speaker in Bermuda’s political history, served as a Member of Parliament from 1968 until his retirement in 2012.
Members of the public are invited to sign condolences online, which will be presented to Mr Lowe’s family.
Mr Lowe was selected as Deputy Speaker in 1995 before taking the Speaker’s chair as the first Black Bermudian Speaker appointed after the Progressive Labour Party’s inaugural victory after 30 years under the now defunct United Bermuda Party in 1998.
A Government spokesperson said: “As a member of the Parliamentary ‘Class of 68’, Mr. Lowe formed part of the anchor of Bermuda’s modern political history and served the people of his beloved Southampton East for 44 years.”
