Bermudians have reacted positively to the historic match against World # 12 Mexico at the National Stadium 10pm on Friday October 11th, 2019.
The Bermuda National Stadium was sold out!
Mexico is the toughest opponent Bermuda has ever faced and this is an important tournament that Mexico have won previously.
According to Wikipedia: “Mexico is historically the most successful national team in the CONCACAF region, having won eleven confederation titles, including eight CONCACAF Gold Cups and three CONCACAF Championships(the precursor to the Gold Cup), as well as three NAFC Championships, one North American Nations Cup, and one CONCACAF Cup.”
Conversely, Bermuda is ranked # 167 but has risen seven places since stunning world # 77 Panama at home in the second leg last month. But tonight’s match up is against a team that has been among the top 16 football nations in the World Cup repeatedly.
The match up against Mexico was a classic ‘David vs Goliath Fight.
Team Bermuda can take comfort in knowing that we earned this top billing against the top team in CONCACAF by defying all the odds.
We are pleased Bermudians have responded positively and our National Team will walk out in front of a packed National Stadium.
With anticipation running high before the game, the sentiment in spite of the final result was “Let The Games Begin”.
