“We will not let the destructive few wreak havoc in our community,” said the Minister of National Security, Wayne Caines today, following a series of shooting incidents this week, with the most recent happening this morning.
Minister Caines added: “All of Bermuda should be outraged that gun shots are being sprayed indiscriminately into to private residences. We are acutely aware of the tensions in our community in the wake of the recent gun activity, which should cause us all concern. These recent acts are a somber reminder for us all that there is still much work to be done. The Government will continue to support the enforcement efforts of the BPS.
“For our part, the Ministry’s Gang Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) has been busy this weekend continuing its outreach efforts in the affected neighbourhoods. They are providing a reassuring presence and affording those impacted an opportunity to speak to us directly about the safety issues that concern them. But we are encouraging anyone who has any information about these latest acts to please share what you know.
“I echo the Police Commissioner’s plea – as a community let’s band together to fight against the elements which seek to destroy our community – because the bleak reality is that these random acts of cowardice will end up causing serious injury to, or the death of, an innocent person. And we just simply cannot allow that to happen.”
Anyone who may have information is asked to contact the police on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.
