West end traffic was backed up for several hours as a result of an early morning collision on a stretch of Road commonly referred to as ‘Death Valley’ in Southampton.

The accident occurred on Middle Road near Evans Bay Road around 5:30am.

Police and first responders attended a report of a two vehicle collision between a motorcycle and car. A spokesman said: “The rider of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious leg injuries.

The scene was being processed by the relevant police officers for several hours. An investigation into this accident is now underway.

Traffic back ups were cleared shortly after 8am.
