A young male motorcyclist clocked at a speed of 67km, who led police on a chase is now facing charges, including an assault on police and riding under age.

Officers were conducting road traffic checks on Southside Road in St David’s around 12:40am on Friday, July 8, in keeping with Operation Vega.

A spokesman said: “The male motorcycle rider refused to stop and a chase ensued. Officers lost sight of the suspect upon reaching Chapel of Ease Road.

“An area search was conducted and the subject was found hiding on his bike behind a wall.

“The rider attempted to evade police by driving at the officers, one of whom sustained injuries to his arms and legs.

“The suspect who was subsequently arrested, was found to be under age and riding a motorcycle, which following checks, was found to have previously been reported as stolen and was fitted fraudulent license plates.

“These matters all remain under investigation and anyone with information on any of them is asked to call 211 or, the main police number, 295-0011.
