A statement is pending from the Bermuda Police Service later today, on further details that indicate two men where injured during New Year’s Eve violence at the Fairmont Southampton Resort.

Bermuda Real understands that another man suffered stab wounds, in addition to the man found unconscious near the hotel’s fourth floor elevator.

When contacted, Police Media Relations Manager Dwayne Caines stated that an updated statement will be released today.

Meanwhile, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, Jamahl Simmons today condemned the recent spate of events stemming from a host of hotel room parties by holidays guests.

“Violence and criminal activity of any sort have no place in our society,” said the Minister. “We condemn the incident in the early hours of New Year’s Day and encourage members of the public to assist in the investigation.

“I have reached out to the General Manager at the resort and have offered our support and encouragement,” he added.

“As we seek to grow our economy and attract more visitors to our shores, each of us have a responsibility and a role to play in preserving the peaceful and tranquil reputation for which we are globally renowned; not just for visitors but for each of us who call Bermuda home.”
