News Release: HAMILTON, Bermuda – The Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport, Owen Darrell recently officially opened the new and iconic Achilles restaurant overlooking the stunning Achilles Bay adjacent to Fort St Catherine. The development of the building was made possible by the Hotelco team´s desire to see the site brought back to life as part of their overall plans for the St Regis Hotel, the St Regis Residences and the St George’s Club Hotel.

Together with an MEF Team, headed up by Stefania Di Meglio and Guido Brambilla, this vision has now become a reality. Collaborating with other local companies, the renovation of this superlative site has been a true testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of Bermuda’s robust business community with the backing of the Government through the Tourism Investment Act.

The Minister noted in his opening remarks: “This is not just the opening of another restaurant; it represents the start of a new era of elevated hospitality experiences in Bermuda and the continued revitalisation of St Georges.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey – the dedicated MEF and HotelCo teams have undoubtedly made every effort to turn this vision into a reality. This new restaurant plays a major part in advancing the island’s overall tourism product drawing locals and visitors into an exceptional culinary experience, especially for our hotel guests at the St Regis Bermuda Resort and the St George´s Club Hotel.” He concluded: “As we cut this ribbon, let it be a symbol of new beginnings, endless possibilities, and the promise of many delightful memories formed at these tables.”

Laura Purroy of Hotelco stated: “We are very pleased to see this dream come true … Achilles restaurant was the missing jewel of the crown of this magnificent development that is part of St Regis Bermuda Resort, Five Forts Golf Club and St George´s Club Hotel.

“Piece by piece, stone by stone, Hotelco has been contributing since 2015 to the revival of the town of St George´s. We remain committed to the wellbeing of the community of St George by creating jobs and opportunities for Bermudians and bringing business to the old town and its people. With Achilles restaurant we wanted to enhance the look and feel of the area and for visitors to have a beautiful experience in the East End with the magic that MEF puts into their food and lifestyle.” She finished by thanking the Government for their continued support and to MEF for believing in the work of Hotelco and undertaking this project and partnership with them.

Teresa Chatfield from MEF commented that the project had been two years in planning from inception and mentioned the long history of MEF being at the forefront of restaurant and hospitality investment under the guidance and innovation of MEF Directors, Emilio Barbieri and Jacky Di Meglio. Stefania also noted that she had become increasingly drawn into the history and independent culture of St. Georges and looked forward to interacting with the local community during the upcoming months.

Food and Beverage Director, Guido Brambilla, a native of Italy and a significant part of creative force behind Achilles, has curated a menu that celebrates the best of both worlds – the “MediterrAsian” fusion. With a focus on simplicity, high-quality ingredients, vibrant colors, and aromatic spices, Achilles promises an unforgettable dining experience that captures the essence of two continents.

Achilles did a soft opening on Wednesday, May 29th and now welcomes guests for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. The restaurant’s culinary team is comprised of skilled chefs from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique traditions and culinary secrets to the table, creating an authentic and unforgettable dining experience. Achilles’ service team embodies the warmth of traditional hospitality which reflect St. George’s own unique history, ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and cared for from the moment they step through the door.
