Government has hired the services of eight minibuses to bolster after-school bus services for students, following “a combination of mechanical breakdowns and accidents”.
A spokesperson said last night that “a higher than normal number of buses being off the roads this week”, led to “the temporary measure”.
The Ministry of Transportation has also launched a campaign to hire more bus drivers.
The spokesperson added: “New bus deliveries continue with the receipt of one more this week, to be followed by two additional buses in November. In addition, the new bus RFP closes on Monday September 16, and will inform the next purchase of buses.
“DPT apologises for the inconvenience caused by service cancellations and will keep the public informed through the Bus Alerts page on the government website, and by email to subscribers.”
