Three years after a fatal boat crash ended a young man’s life, the man at the helm on that fateful night admitted in Supreme Court to killing Adrian Hassell, who was 24.

Mikado Burchall, 35, of Smith’s Parish, pleaded guilty on Thursday to killing Adrian Hassell, while dangerously piloting a boat on New Year’s Day in 2019.

Mr Hassell was a concierge agent at Hamilton Princess.

After his death, the Bermuda Hotel Association renamed a scholarship in his memory.

The Crown decided not to pursue an alternate charge of manslaughter or operating a boat while impaired.

Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe ordered a social inquiry report before releasing Burchall on $20,000 bail.

The case was adjourned until June 3 for sentencing.
