A 52-year-old man has been jailed for one year for assaulting a police officer with a walking stick during the airport protest at the House of Assembly last year.

Edmund Smith was charged with assaulting Inspector Scott Devine outside the House of Assembly on December 2nd. It was alleged that he struck the officer repeatedly on the legs with a wooden walking stick.

A police spokesman said Smith was convicted by Magistrate Archie Warner last week and sentenced to 12 months in prison at Westgate Correctional Facility.
