The man who turned himself in to police following the Christmas Eve stabbing incident at Place’s Place, was formally charged in Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Jaha Mallory, 35, stands accused of stabbing Tio Smith with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was also charged with carrying a knife in a public place.

The defendant was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offence, which will be dealt with in the Supreme Court.

Mallory was released on $10,000 bail by Magistrate Craig Attridge, who adjourned the case until the arraignment session in February.

He was also ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and report to Hamilton Police Station three times a week, with orders to stay away from the alleged victim and any potential witnesses.

At last check, the victim, who was stabbed in the chest, was listed in stable condition at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
