A 36-year-old Pembroke man was formally charged in Magistrates’ Court this morning (Mar 16), with one count of causing a death on Bermuda’s roads on Christmas Day in 2021.

Treadwell Smith, 36, was charged with causing the death of Dennis Saunders by driving his car on Palmetto Road without due care and attention.

He was further charged with driving while having a dangerous drug in his system, driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol and driving without proper insurance.

Smith was not required to enter pleas to the indictable offences, which will go before a judge and jury in the Supreme Court.

He was released on $10,000 bail by Magistrate Craig Attridge, who adjourned the case until May 1.

The defendant was also ordered to surrender all travel documents and report to the Hamilton Police Station three times a week.
