New York Daily News: MANHATTAN, NY – Nobody stepped in to prevent a jailhouse beating of R. Kelly, lawyers for the singer said in court documents filed Friday.
The court papers said Kelly’s assailant “roamed a great distance” through the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago on his path to the musician and that “no one at the MCC raised a finger” until deep into the attack.
Jeremiah Farmer was accused of carrying out the assault on Kelly, 53.
Lawyers for Kelly requested that the singer be released from custody pending trial. Kelly faces sexual abuse-related charges.
Kelly’s attorneys wrote in the five-page filing that “the MCC has not, and cannot, keep Mr. Kelly safe.”
Farmer said in a previous filing that he had received inadequate legal counsel and that he attacked Kelly in an attempt to flash a spotlight on government corruption.
