Jubilant supporters turned out in full force today to welcome and congratulate Bermuda’s Special Olympians who competed in the Special Olympics 2019 held in Abu Dhabi.

On hand to greet the team when the motorcade arrived at the Cabinet Building earlier today was Premier David Burt and a host of Members of Parliament, who joined relatives and friends for the special occasion.

The triumphant athletes, organisers, coaches, friends and family gathered to hear congratulatory remarks and have photos taken. After the welcome ceremony the Premier hosted a reception for the athletes and their families as well as presented the entire team with certificates of appreciation.

In his remarks on the team’s arrival, Premier Burt commended Team Bermuda on their performance and welcomed them back home.

“What an amazing caliber of athletes we have,” said Mr Burt.

“Today we celebrate your achievements at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019you have all made Bermuda extremely proud.

“I know that attending the Special Olympics was a major goal, and you worked very hard to meet all of the necessary requirements to get there.
“You should all be extremely proud of your success – as all of Bermuda is. I would like to also extend our thanks to the organisers, coaches, volunteers and family who supported and assisted Team Bermuda,” he added.
“Your commitment and participation furthers the mission of the Special Olympics.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda I extend heartfelf congratulations these determined athletes, our champions – you exhibited great skill and talent and again I will say, well done Team Bermuda.
“Thank you.”
