As first reported on Fresh TV via the Bermuda News Syndicate, SAL in Southampton became the site of industrial action at 7am this morning, when workers downed tools following a first round of negotiations that stopped before the real talks even started.

Bermuda Real was informed of the unionised workers’ decision to down tools last night.

When contacted this morning, our sources confirmed that staff, including truckers who run the concrete plant supplies, downed tools when they reported to work at 7am.

Sources telling Bermuda Real that the dispute centres around comments reportedly made by the company’s CEO, Progressive Labour Party Senator Vance Campbell.

When asked for an apology by Mr Campbell reportedly refused to apologise, which prompted the decision to down tools.

Management is aware of the current stance, no official word yet – we’ll have more on this story as it develops later today.
