Police rushed to the scene of an industrial accident near the St Regis Hotel Property in St George’s early this morning, where a crane toppled over, leaving the operator trapped inside.
Police say the incident occurred shortly after 8am.
“Reports are a crane was being moved along nearby Barry Road when a mechanical failure occurred, causing it to topple over down an embankment and onto the property,” a spokesman said.
“The crane landed on its side, with the operator trapped inside.
“Bermuda Fire and Rescue personnel assisted in extracting the operator, who sustained a non-life threatening leg injury, for which he received attention at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and discharged.”
Fortunately, no one else was injured, he added.
“A police Traffic Collision Investigator along with a government Health and Safety Officer attended the scene and an investigation into the incident has begun.”
