Following a series of vague statements that say virtually nothing in terms of precautionary measures and border controls as it relates to the deadly coronavirus epidemic, Health Minister Kim Wilson has finally decided to hold a news conference later today.
According to a Ministry spokesperson, that conference will be held at 3:30pm this afternoon, in the lead up to the anticipated arrival of Anthem on the Seas on Wednesday, amid questions on whether or not local authorities are truly equipped to deal with this global outbreak.
It also follows a voice note circulated via social media this weekend, by a government worker who called on his colleagues in Marine & Ports and other government departments that deal with transportation to refuse to deal with the cruise ship.
That worker also called on the Government to have this ship diverted so that it would not be allowed in Bermuda.
The voice note prompted a flurry of comments by local residents questioning the decision to let this ship come here in the first place.
Questions sent in to Bermuda Real by a host of concerned residents questioned a number of issues, including the fact that no quarantine areas have been designated, to whether or not Bermuda even has the test to detect or diagnose the virus.
Other residents questioned whether or not Bermuda’s hospital is equipped to handle this epidemic in a hospital already plagued with a host of issues.
What the Minister plans to say – time will tell at 3:30pm.
We’ll have that story later today.
