An online fundraising initiative to reach a $50,000 goal, has reached $18,933 to help cover the medical expenses of the young mother severely injured in a vicious machete attack that has left her with life-altering injuries.

As of Friday, June 26, the GoFundMe page set up for Kenneita Wade, a mother of two, had more than 200 donors.

The page states: “On June 19, 2020 a vicious, malicious, and unprovoked attack on the mother of two during a home invasion with a machete weapon left her with serious injuries and debilitating aftermath.

“Her injuries were so severe that it has left her with life-long, life-altering handicaps that will require her to need medical aides such as prosthetics, ongoing therapy, and the continuous support to care for her two young children, only aged ten and six.

“The expense of her ongoing medical care and devices alone are estimated to be $50,000. These aides will be necessary to provide Kenneita with the functionality she will need to make her life somewhat adjustable as she begins a different life.

“Kenneita is a mother, daughter, sister, and treasured friend to all, and this attack, although surviving, has undoubtedly created many unfortunate realities for her life and the life of her children. We ask as her family and friends that all communities can rally around her and send support through donations as soon as possible.

“Raising funds for Kenneita’s medical expenses is the beginning of rebuilding a family’s life after devastation.

“Families make our communities and this is an opportunity to give a family some assurance after security has been stolen, breached, and violated to such a degree. We ask that you donate to Kenneita so that she can regain her place in our community.”

The official notices posted on June 24 listed a Temporary Fundraising Licence T2097 that was issued to “Medical Expenses For Kenneita Wade in accordance with the Charities Act 2014, section 43 (5)]”.
