Attention all fitness fans, there’s an open invitation going out this week to join Brazilian Top Team Bermuda (BTT Bermuda) for a fun, family friendly. FREE event at the main ring at Botanical Gardens.

The team who introduced structured, authentic Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to Bermuda is hosting their inaugural ‘Warriors In The Garden’ event on Sunday, from 12pm to 4:30pm and everyone is invited.

No experience, or specific fitness level is required. Bring your athletic clothes, boxing and kickboxing/Muay Thai gear and train in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (Youth & Adult), NoGi Submission Grappling, Muay Thai and Boxing.

Highlights include demonstrations by Jevaughn ‘Squirrely’ Simons’ Fight Back Self Defence and Ivan Outerbridge’s Capoeira Camara Bermuda.

Mark Prior, BTT Bermuda founder and owner explained the event is more than simply training outdoors.

“It’s about having fun doing what we love, and being more accessible to the public who we encourage to join us in any class they want,” he said.

“Starting February 1 this year we will be adding two new classes to our schedule. so we are excited to highlight them at this event.

“In the past there used to be a lot of politics in the local Martial Arts world – I’m not from that generation, I don’t entertain any of those stories – you see a new generation working together in unity, no matter what Martial Arts background you’re from. It’s about getting back to doing what we love and including everyone.”

BTT Bermuda officially opened on August 12, 2017, having affiliated with the world renowned fight team Brazilian Top Team. BTT is led by Head Coach, 3rd Degree BJJ Black Belt Professor Marcos Tulio, a professional fighter and coach being a multiple-time North American Grappling Association (NAGA) and International Brazilian Ju-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) champion, and top student of former UFC Middleweight Champion and BTT founder, Murilo Bustamante.

Tulio was recruited by Mark Prior, for his lifetime of professional experience both in and out of the ring and having coached some of the best fighters in the world, including Alistair Overeem, Rashad Evans, Melvin Guillard and more.

“Having this unmatched experience in Bermuda for the first time definitely puts Bermuda on par with professional training experienced in top gyms worldwide. Bermudians are being levelled up on their Martial Arts journey, and it’s only the beginning.”

  • A student said to his master: “You teach me fighting, but you talk about peace. How do you reconcile the two? The master replied: “It’s better to be a warrior in a garden, that a gardener in a war.”
