Police say four men with “strong gang connections” were arrested over the weekend in an operation launched in response to the recent spate of incidents involving firearms.

According the the statement released on Tuesday (February 25), police targeted “specific persons” in the operation after firearms incidents from Monday, February 3 through Sunday, February 16, with several search warrants executed.

A spokesman said: “The police would like to remind the public that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated and we will continue robust policing efforts to stem this tide of gang and firearms incidents.

“We would like to again thank the public for their continued assistance with the ongoing investigations into these incidents.

“We also urge anyone with information on any person(s) with firearms and or anyone who has information about people who are participating in antisocial behaviour and who may not have yet done so, to come forward and assist your police service.
