Four Bermuda based businesses, and one overseas company, have been awarded contracts to work on the new passenger terminal building at the LF Wade International Airport.

Thermoset Roofing, a Florida based contractor, has been awarded the roofing contract for the new passenger terminal building and they will be working with Kaissa Limited, a full service exterior contractor and supplier based in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Thermoset Roofing specialises in roofing projects that can withstand extreme weather –  with past high profile projects including the Hard Rock Stadium used by the Miami Dolphins; Nasaau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA); Baha Mar Resort & Casino in Cable Beach, Bahamas; and the Atlantis Resort & Casino in Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Barclay Construction Limited of Bermuda, which is a full service construction company, has been awarded a contract to carry out the electrical sub-station building work for the airport’s new passenger terminal building. Known for providing contracting services on both a large and small scale throughout the Island, Barclay’s also specialise in repairs and alteration projects on residential and commercial properties.

Gulfstream Construction Limited, based in Hamilton, Bermuda, has been provided a contract to complete slab on deck and slab on grade work at the new terminal. This includes formwork, concrete placing and finishing and reinforcing to lay a solid foundation for subsequent building.

Lastly, the landscaping contract for the new airport terminal has been awarded to Sousa’s Landscape Management Company, based in Southampton, Bermuda. The work will include the preparation and installation of topsoil, supplying and planting various types of trees, hedges and small plants and seeding and watering large lawn areas.

Frank Ross, Aecon’s Executive Director, Infrastructure, said: “It is extremely rewarding to be able to work with such hard-working and talented local and overseas contractors to make this airport redevelopment project, and this latest wave of awarded contracts once again proves our commitment to this.

“We are excited to see these new projects take shape over the next few weeks and months,” he added.

The redevelopment of the LF Wade International Airport, which was recently recognised with the IJIGlobal Magazine Award for the ‘2017 North America Deal of the Year’, is expected to be completed in 2020. The first phase of planned cosmetic upgrades for the existing terminal was recently completed and the next phase of upgrades, including exterior painting, will begin next month.

Bermuda Skyport Corporation Limited is overseeing the overall development and implementation of the project, and the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), through a subcontract to Aecon, will deliver the construction component of this venture.
