Sadly, a 16-year-old schoolboy tragically lost his life on Monday (January 13), marking the first road traffic fatality on Bermuda’s roads this year.

Police say the Sandys Parish teenager died after his motorcycle collided with a fire truck and a taxi on Somerset Road near Scaur Hill.

The accident occurred around 4:15pm.

Traffic was delayed for hours as police processed the scene.

Passing motorists told Bermuda Real they saw first responders trying to resuscitate the young man for quite some time before moving him.

Traffic traffic was diverted onto Sound View Road to travel along the Railway trail to Somerset Bridge or Port Royal.

But public buses were delayed for hours.

A police spokesman said a family liaison officer has been assigned to the young man’s family.

Meanwhile, a full investigation is now underway. Any witnesses are urged to contact Pc Dennis Joell on 247-1788 or 717-2221 or by e-mail at djoell@bps.bm.
