News Release: HAMILTON, Bermuda – When two young American Jews raised to unconditionally love Israel witness the brutal way Israel treats Palestinians, their lives take sharp left turns.
They join a movement of young American Jews battling the old guard to redefine Judaism’s relationship to Israel, revealing a deepening generational divide over modern Jewish identity.”
From Tikkan Olam Productions and directors Erin Axelman and Sam Eilersten comes the film ISRAELISM. The feature-length documentary film that explores how Jewish attitudes towards Israel are changing dramatically, with massive consequences for the region and for Judaism itself. This documentary will be screened at the BUEI auditorium on February 11th 2024 at 4 – 6 pm, free admission. Seating capacity is limited so it will be managed by a first come, first seated basis.
ISRAELISM has been screened at many festivals worldwide and won many awards including Best Documentary in Arizona at the International Film Festival 2023, Best Feature Competition at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival 2Oh23, award winner at Tallgrass Film Festival 2023, the documentary Audience award at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival 43, official selection at Brooklyn Film Festival and at the Dallas International Film Festival 2023. Although ISRAELISM was released in early 2023, it has become even more relevant in this moment. It o!ers a small window into the machinations of special interest groups in the US and their in%uence on young Jews. Simultaneously, the ‘lm explores how some young Jews, like the protagonists, are forging their own paths as they discover more than they were taught.
This documentary screening is organized by a collective of concerned Bermudian residents of many faiths and backgrounds who are calling for an immediate ceasefire, unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, and the safe release of both Palestinian and Israeli hostages.
This is a loving call to our island community to step deeper into our collective humanity and to learn together.
