A female visitor was rushed to the Emergency Department this evening (June 17), after she was hit by a police officer on a motorcycle, who was responding to a call when the collision occurred.

Police say the accident occurred around 5:25pm on Burnaby Street between Reid and Church Streets.

The officer suffered “abrasions” but the woman sustained a leg injury and possible head injuries.

Traffic diversions were in effect for approximately two hours while the scene was processed.

A spokesman said: “It now appears that the police motorcyclist involved was responding to a call for service when the collision occurred with a female pedestrian, believed to be an American visitor, who was attempting to cross Burnaby Street in the vicinity of DHL Express.

“Currently, she is understood to be receiving treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for a leg injury as well as suspected head injuries.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses are still encouraged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
