A date has been set for the Bye-Election in Constituency 10, Smith’s North to fill the seat vacated by One Bermuda Alliance MP Michael Dunkley.

The Parliamentary Registry Office (PRO) made the announcement yesterday, saying the election is scheduled to take place on May 22 – two days before the Bermuda Day holiday.

PRO Tenia Woolridge stated that the Writ of Election will be issued on Wednesday, April 10, and that the public should note that all other relevant election information will be made available at that time.

The announcement came hard on the heels of word from Sir John Swan that he would return to the island’s political arena as an Independent, if the Constituents of Smith’s North (C10) would have him.

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Sir John, who is now 88-years-old, issued a rallying call for more Bermudians to consider throwing their hats into the ring as independent candidates.
