Congratulations to Cyana Burgess, the recipient of a $30,000 scholarship by Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) to continue studying Actuarial Science and Data Analytics At the UK University of Leicester.
A spokesperson said: Ms Burgess, who is interning this summer with life insurer Monument Re, will use the money over the next two years.”
“Ms Burgess, a former Berkeley Institute student, graduated from the J Mack Robinson College at Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, this year with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Actuarial Science and Finance, with a minor in Spanish,” the spokesperson added.
“I want to thank BILTIR and the board for choosing me as the recipient of this education award,” said Ms Burgess.
“I am incredibly honoured and grateful that I have been given the chance to further my educational growth for an even more plentiful career in Bermuda’s reinsurance industry.”
Ms Burgess has previously taken part in BILTIR internship programmes, both in 2018 and 2019 with Global Atlantic Re, where she was mentored by the company’s President Darryl Herrick.
Mr Herrick will also be mentoring Ms Burgess for the next two years.
“I have known and worked with Cyana for multiple years and can say without hesitation that she is truly deserving of this award,” said Mr Herrick.
“Cyana is incredibly hard working, intensely driven, and she brings a highly collegial and optimistic attitude to work every day. I am so proud of what she has achieved thus far and can’t wait to see her career continue to develop and prosper. Cyana represents the very best of Bermuda.”
BILTIR represents 61 long-term insurance, reinsurance and servicing companies in Bermuda who provide life and annuity products and employ more than 600 people on the island. This year, BILTIR is celebrating ten years of successfully supporting the island’s growing life and annuities market.
