New York Daily News: MANHATTAN, By Theresa Braine – Days before CNN fired Chris Cuomo for his alleged role in defending his brother from sexual harassment claims, the younger brother of disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo had himself been accused of similar misconduct a lawyer for his accuser said Sunday.
Attorney Debra Katz told the Associated Press that she had a client who was the victim of “serious sexual misconduct” by Cuomo and that she had contacted CNN about the woman’s allegations on Wednesday, after the network suspended its star correspondent.
CNN officials had said “additional information has come to light” in announcing the anchor’s firing on Saturday but did not provide details. The alleged victim said through her attorney that she was inspired to come forward after hearing Chris Cuomo tell viewers he “cared deeply” about such issues, Katz said in a statement.
“Hearing the hypocrisy of Chris Cuomo’s on-air words and disgusted by his efforts to try to discredit these women, my client retained counsel to report his serious sexual misconduct against her to CNN,” Katz said.
When he was suspended, Chris Cuomo said it hurt but that he understood the network’s move. The direct allegations against him had not yet surfaced at that time.
