A Canadian man who lives in Ottawa, was today formally charged in Magistrates’ Court with importing nearly $1 million worth of cannabis into Bermuda with intent to supply.

Ngongo-Eric Sampassa, 31, was not required to enter a plea to the indictment for the offences alleged to have been committed in St George’s on March 11.

According to the Crown, the drugs seized have an estimated street value of $973,600.

Senior Magistrate Maxanne Anderson released the defendant on $25,000 bail and set the case down for the next arraignment session in the Supreme Court on May 1.

He was also ordered to surrender his travel documents and report to the Hamilton Police Station three days a week.
