Gales develop as Hurricane Tammy creeps closer, as the storm approaches Bermuda with strong to gale force winds now merging with a front, becoming post-tropical and making a close approach to our east.
Forecasters at the Bermuda Weather Service BWS, say: “Further blustery showers are expected, mostly during Friday.
“The weekend then sees winds easing and more settled weather developing as post-tropical Tammy clears away east.
“Hazardous surf and rip currents are now present as easterly swells continue to build.“
According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 5am, Hurricane Tammy was located at 30.5°N 58.4°W, moving N at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds at 85 mph.
In their latest update, the BWS said: “Strong to gale force winds develop today as Hurricane Tammy, now merging with a front and becoming post-tropical.“
As the storm makes a close approach to our east, they say further blustery showers are expected, mostly during Friday.
“The weekend then sees winds easing and more settled weather developing as post-tropical Tammy clears away east.
“Hazardous surf and rip currents are now present as easterly swells continue to build.“
The forecast for today calls for a mix of a bit of sun and clouds after an early morning shower or two, with winds strong wind gusts to gale force out of the north-northeast, increasing to gale force later.
Forecasters anticipate a high near 77°F, with increasing clouds overnight and the chance of a shower towards dawn, with strong to gale force winds out of the north-northeast overnight, especially in any showers.
The anticipated low is 73°F.
A small craft warning is currently in effect for the local area through to Friday evening when storm force winds will start easing, but will remain strong overnight, with sunny periods on Saturday.
The forecast calls for most sunny skies on Sunday with moderate north-northeasterly winds, veering east-northeasterly at light to moderate overnight.
