In recognition of International’s Women’s Day, noted author and former Progressive Labour Party MP, Neletha Butterfield, MBE, will officially launch her new book, ’17 Trailblazers Who Walked with Purpose’, who received the Sojourner Truth Award from the Bermuda Business and Professional Women’s Club on Friday, March 8.
The book signing will be held at CARE Learning Centre from 6pm to 9pm.
Guest speakers include Dr Dorothy Mathews-Paynter, one of the 17 trailblazers featured in the book, where you will find the story on the life and times of “an amazing Bermudian woman who worked her way up from humble beginnings, to make a success of her life”.
Ms Butterfield wrote: “She started out without secondary education, but later settled on her true, vocation in life that gave her the opportunity to travel widely and enrich her existence. In her younger years, she began experimenting with hairdressing in her Grandma’s kitchen, and perfected her skills through studies at Apex College in the USA, to become a professional in her field, managing her own business.
“After marrying with four children, the opportunity finally came to embark on a GED (General Education), course, at a newly, constructed adult education school. She is the oldest member of the women’s club. Her book entitled “The Life and Times of a Bermudian Legend, Dr Dorothy Louise Matthews-Paynter: As Poor As A Church Mouse” is  one book that should be on your shelf.”
We’ll be featuring excerpts from the book, which retails for $25 and will be on sale with other books by the author, at CARE – Children and Adults Reaching for Education.
Ms Butterfield, who founded the alternative learning centre, is a former Senator, Member of Parliament and Government Cabinet Minister.
