The latest statistics on the rising toll of road traffic accidents on healthcare costs in Bermuda for medical treatment, show another 355 victims were treated at the hospital’s Emergency Department between January 1 to March 31.
Figures released by the Bermuda Hospitals Board this week, recorded five victims who were subsequently admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Another 24 were admitted to the hospital’s Acute Care Wing.
Three victims were 18 years of age or younger and two patients were airlifted and discharged to an overseas medical facility for treatment.
Another sobering statistic that continues to ring through loud and clear – 75 percent of all the road traffic fatalities on Bermuda’s roads involve alcohol and/or drugs.
