News Release: Tuesday, February 19, 2019 – Bermuda’s young people are invited to meet three-time Olympian, four-tim ITU World Champion!and Ironman Tim Don, this weekend at the National Sports Centre. ‘The!Don’,an inspiring athlete will be a special guest at this year’s first World Triathlon Bermuda Kid Coaching Clinic on Sunday, to open to all children 7 years and older.

Tim Don is perhaps most inspiring for the way he has overcome adversity. At the height of his career as the fastest Ironman triathlete of all time ,a cycling crash left him with a broken neck just days before the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, where  he was a favourite to win. The crash could have ended his career but he didn’t let it stop him. He wore a full halo head brace for three months and worked his way back into competition. He produced an inspiring documentary -the Man with the Halo which can also be seen on WTS Bermuda Facebook@tribermuda.

Bermuda’s school children can meet ‘The Don’ and benefit from his inspiration and coaching this Sunday, February 24 at 11am at the National Sports Centre.

This is the first of the Bermuda World Triathalon Bermuda Kids Coaching Clinics starting this week and held every second Sunday from now until the MS Amlin World Triathlon in April. The sessions are to encourage more children to try the sport of triathlon, to provide practice transition skills and to build confidence for racing. After Sunday, future clinics will be at 10am on Sunday, March 10, 24, April 7 and April 21 for approximately an hour each. For more information email kristen@robinson.bm.

The Sunday coaching is organised by the Bermuda Triathlon Association to prepare young athletes for the RenaissanceRe Kids Duathlon on Friday, April 26. The Kids Duathlon will happen the day before the big event on Saturday, April 27, where Flora Duffy, Bermuda’s own World Champion and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, will compete again.

WTSBDA spokesperson and Chief Product and Experience Officer at the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Pat Philip-Fairn said: “The RenaissanceRe Kids Duathlon is an important part of the World Triathlon Festival Weekend.

“Last year more than 200 children raced on Front Street, experiencing the thrill of the World Triathlon finish line. Since Duffy’s outstanding 2018 performance there has been a surge of interest from Bermuda’s children in the sport, which is encouraging to see. We look forward to building on that this year.”

The MS Amlin World Triathlon 2019 will be hosted in Hamilton on April 27, 2019. It is the second of three annual World Series Triathlon events that the island will host; in 2021 Bermuda will be home to the ITU Grand Final and Age Group World Championships.

MS Amlin World Triathlon Bermuda 2019 is supported by Title Sponsor MS Amlin and others including a host of local businesses that contribute to its success.
