The Bermuda Rugby Football Union (BFRU) received an added boost by a recent $5,000 donation by Marsh and Guy Carpenter, to help subsidise travel costs for members of the island’s National Rugby Sevens teams.
The teams competed in the annual Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens Tournament held on November 25th and 26th in Mexico City.
The RANS Sevens Tournament, governed by World Rugby, is the biggest regional rugby tournament, and qualifier for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Sports Organisation (CASCO) Games, Hong Kong Sevens, Rugby World Cup Sevens Finals and Commonwealth Games.
Marsh and Guy Carpenter are wholly owned subsidiaries of Marsh & McLennan Companies (NYSE: MMC), a global professional services firm offering clients advice and solutions in the areas of risk, strategy, and human capital.
Director of Bermuda’s National Sevens Program, Jonathan Cassidy, thanked the company for their donation, that was “used to help young, deserving Bermudian athletes attend the tournament in Mexico City”.
“Financial means should never be a barrier to our athletes representing our country, and the support we receive from local companies is an essential part of our National Teams’ success,” he said.
