Bermuda suffered a 2-1 defeat by Mexico last night to be relegated to League B in the Concacaf Nations League and the rest, as they say, is history.

After all was said and done a win or a draw was not to be at the Estadio Nemesio Díez Stadium in Toluca for Bermuda’s Gombey Warriors, despite taking an early lead with a goal by team captain Dante Leverock in the tenth minute.

No word yet on when the team returns to Bermuda.

Bermuda won only four of their games this year, including their 2-0 win over Panama.

Tuesday’s match was sixth game between Mexico and Bermuda.

Bermuda has beaten Mexico only once and that was way back in 1969, claiming a 2-1 win against El Tri.

Here’s a look back at what Nahki Wells had to say back in October after playing in front of a sold out crowd at the National Sports Centre, when Mexico defeated Bermuda 5-1.

The bottom line,he said: “We continue to make silly mistakes and I guess that just goes to show we’ve got a long way to go.”
