Ministry of Health officials tonight confirmed reports reaching Bermuda Real earlier today that Bermuda “experienced two coronavirus related deaths over the weekend”.
In response to our request for confirmation of the latest deaths submitted this afternoon, a spokeswoman said: “The Ministry of Health does not comment on individual cases. For reasons of confidentiality.”
A subsequent request for a mere confirmation went unanswered.
But in a statement released shortly after 9pm tonight, Health Minister Kim Wilson said: “I am deeply saddened to announce that two people passed away over the weekend after contracting COVID-19.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, I extend sincere condolences to the individuals’ family and friends.
“The Ministry will not release personal details about the individuals and ask the public to respect the privacy of the families as they mourn their loved ones.”
Premier David Burt also tweeted: “The thoughts and prayers of the Government are with both of the families as they mourn their loved ones.”
This brings the number of COVID-19 deaths to 14.
