Bermuda Real received confirmation from family members that the island recorded another death due to COVID-19 early this morning as the number of active cases jumped to 871 in a single day with 116 new cases confirmed on Friday (April 9).
No official word yet from local health officials on this latest death, which when confirmed, will bring the total number of deaths to 15.
Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 1,773 total confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.
Five of the new cases reported were imported by returning residents. Two arrived on a Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta on April 3, two arrived here from Boston and New York on March 30 and another resident arrived here from London on the same day.
Twenty (20) of the new cases were classified as local transmission with known contact as associated with known cases.
The additional 91 new cases are classified as under investigation. These cases are among residents with no currently identified link to other known cases or history of travel in the past 14 days.
Of the 871 active cases, 843 are under public health monitoring and 28 are in hospital with six in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit as of Friday, April 9.
