Participants in the 2021 Bermuda Day Half Marathon will have to meet the COVID-19 standards before they hit the starting line down at the east end later this week.

Organisers of the event set out the new rules on social media, saying: “In keeping with the Bermuda Government’s exemption requirements for the 2021 Bermuda Half Marathon Derby, All 2021 Derby participants need to be either fully vaccinated (2 jabs completed) or possess a Negative COVID test within three (3) days of race day (ie: test between Tuesday, May 25th and Thursday, May 27th).

“Testing is available by appointment on Tuesday 25th and Thursday 27th in Dockyard and on Wednesday 26th in St George’s.

“Go to: Bermuda Government COVID website: https://bdagovcovid.resqwest.com to schedule a time to be tested.

“Note: If you have not been vaccinated and do not wish to be tested, you can request a refund or choose to defer your Derby registration to 2022.

“We apologize for the late notice, but please understand this has been an incredibly challenging month for planning this event. All registered participants will be receiving an email shortly with instructions on how to fulfill the exemption requirement. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and continued patience. We look forward to a safe and healthy event with you all!”
