News Release: HAMILTON, Bermuda – Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (Belco) has restored power to all customers following several major transmission faults that occurred on Thursday.
The outages occurred due to three faults on primary transmission lines on Middle Road, Southampton. Belco crews worked throughout the night to repair the cables and restore power to customers.
Dennis Pimental, Belco President said: “The faults that occurred on Thursday afternoon caused more than 7,000 customers in the west end of the island to lose power over the last 24 hours. All of the cables have been repaired and power has been restored to all customers.”
Belco is currently working on a grid modernisation project throughout the island and this includes replacing aged underrground cables, some of which are more than 60-years-old. These grid upgrades will assist in preventing outages in the future.
Mr Pimental added: “I would like to apologize to all of our valued customers for this inconvenience and thank them for their patience and understanding as we worked to restore their power as quickly as possible.”
