What developed into an outright withdrawal of labour was countered with a Supreme Court order “directing members of the Eletricity supply Trade Union (ESTU) to return to their full employment effective immediately”.

This after workers voted to withdraw labour on Friday morning with plans to review the court order before they returned to the Serpentine Road facility on Saturday morning as the protest continues.

Reports reaching Bermuda Real indicate that other fraternal union members may be considering the call to stand in support with the ESTU.

Home Affairs Minister Walton Brown said “this dispute has emphasized the importance of the issues at stake”. And where possible he said: “This Ministry will work to bring the parties together to achieve some resolution.”

With discussions ongoing, he said further updates on any action taken by the Ministry would be provided.

Premier David Burt added his voice on the dispute Ascendant’s announcement regarding continued supply of electricity, as “unhelpful, considering the need for both sides to work together in the best interests of Bermuda”.
