It won’t be back to business as usual but now that the island’s Shelter in Place order has been lifted, Bermuda’s banks have announced their hours of operation for the weeks ahead in phase one of reopening the island’s economy in the wake of COVID-19.
The two-week Shelter in Place, which ended today, saw banks open only one day a week for the past two weeks, with long lines, including senior citizens, who stood for hours before they were served.
That changes on Monday.
HSBC, Butterfield Bank and Clarien reopen on Monday with streamlined operations.
Clarien Bank will reopen its Hamilton branch only from 9am to 1pm, Monday through Friday.
Butterfield branches in St George’s, Somerset, and Reid Street, in Hamilton and the temporary banking centre at Rosebank, also in Hamilton, will open from 9am to 1pm, Monday through Friday as well.
The Rosebank centre will provide services for seniors only.
Saturday banking, however, will remain suspended until further notice.
Strict social distancing measures will be enforced and customers entering the branches will have to be masked.
Clients were advised to continue to use online channels, including Butterfield Online, the Butterfield mobile banking app, or ATMs whenever possible.
Customers are urged to strictly observe the 9am to 10am scheduled dedicated time for seniors, as well as social distancing norms.
To protect the health of both their staff and customers, the bank also said all customers are required to wear facial coverings or masks.
But HSBC Bermuda will continue to provide limited banking services in the branches.
Transactions include cheque deposits, cash withdrawals for non-debit card holders, statement printing to support submissions for Bermuda Government unemployment support, collection of debit and/or credit cards and collection of HSBC security devices to enable online banking.
Pre-orders for cash withdrwals and statements can be made by calling 299-5959.
HSBC ATMs and online banking services continue, as does the HSBC Bermuda contact Centre during normal business hours.
Clarien Bank, will resume in-branch operations at the Hamilton branch location on Monday.
The bank’s Hamilton office will be open Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm, with the first hour dedicated to “at risk” customers, including senior citizens.
