News Release: HAMILTON, Bermuda – “As we approach Elder Abuse Awareness Day, celebrated internationally on June 15th, Ageing and Disability Services will host a Seniors Tea to highlight the importance of social engagement in reducing the risk of elder abuse,” said Ms. Keeona Belboda Senior Abuse Registrar.
“Social isolation is a primary risk factor for abuse, so on June 9th from 1-4 pm in St. David’s at the Open Door Christian Assembly, we are looking to bring seniors together for a fun and informative event to raise awareness on this issue.”
Ms Belboda added: “Come dressed in your tea attire! This will be a social event with entertainment, information tables, and presentations on key areas of senior abuse awareness and prevention, with attendees enjoying tea and refreshments.”
“There are limited spaces, so you must register with Ageing and Disability Services by May 31st to secure a spot. Contact Ageing and Disability Services at 292-7802 or firstname.lastname@example.org to register.”
The Minister of Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, shared, “Thank you to the amazing team at Ageing and Disability Services for organizing this event. Our seniors have paved the way for us, and they should always get their share of respect, care, and concern.”
“I know that it will not only be a great time, but our seniors will also have the opportunity to connect, build a community, and learn about protecting themselves.”
