This year’s recipient of the 2021 Deloitte Scholarship is Nisha Smith, who will receive up to $20,000 a year for a maximum of 3 years to pursue an undergraduate degree with an interest in accounting, actuarial, financial advisory, risk advisory or other business related studies.

On receiving the scholarship, Ms Smith expressed her “sincere gratitude for being selected as the recipient of the Deloitte Scholarship”.

“I appreciate your recognition of my efforts,” she said.

“I am currently studying Quantitative Risk Management and Insurance with a concentration in Actuarial Science. While in school, I plan on passing as many preliminary actuarial exams as possible. Thanks to Deloitte, I am one step closer to that goal.”

The young Bermudian was selected by the Deloitte Scholarship Committee “from an impressive group of young candidates”.

A spokesperson said: “The committee chose Nisha based on her unwavering drive and determination towards reaching her academic ambition of becoming an actuary.”

Ms Smith added: “As I continue my journey, I am not only motivated to make myself and family proud, but my community proud as well. Being a Bermudian is such a privilege as there are many opportunities like this one, available on the Bermuda Scholarships website. I am looking forward to being a part of the exceptional team at Deloitte.”

She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Risk Management & Insurance with a concentration in Actuarial Science at St John’s University.

Ms Smith obtained her associate’s degree in Actuarial Science from the Bermuda College..

 

She plans to return to Bermuda as a qualified actuary, becoming a role model for other Bermudian students who are interested in exploring this field.
